I don't know about the hit detection except for on the final boss, which is my only complaint about this game. The partner system was great. The actual diversity in moves and the inclusion of guns is good. The enemies were alright (the rapebots refused to drop but they're not unbeatable). The bosses not being able to be attacked from anyplace made for a more side scroller feel which is also good.

Overall it's a great game.
